An O.A.R.S. whitewater rafting guide school trip provides the knowledge and experience for you to be able to maneuver rafts in intermediate whitewater. You’ll be taught both oar rig and paddle raft captaining - and you will be given an in-depth general knowledge of whitewater rafting.
You’ll learn so many, many things… such as…
–how to navigate rivers on oar and paddle boats (route selection, hydraulics, momentum, ferry angles, etc.)
–swift-water rescue (swimming in whitewater, ropes, knots, anchors, flips, wraps, Z-rigging, throw bag rescues, hand signals, etc.)
–how to rig a “bomb-proof” boat
–setting up camp (tying up the boats, anchoring boats properly so they’ll be there in the morning when you are, how to deal with curious camp critters, food prep, etc.)
–how to care for your equipment (inflating/deflating boats properly, rolling and lifting a boat, putting together a repair kit, etc.)
