Considering a Vacation to Mainland Ecuador
November 26, 2007.Until I started researching a possible upcoming trip to Ecuador - I had no idea half of the bird species present in South America are found in this tiny Latin American nation. Ecuador has twice as many birds as all of North America! Ecuador, the northern most country in the Inca Empire, is now known as the hummingbird capital of the world with over 130 species found here. Birds that might be spotted during days spent hiking, biking, horseback riding and river rafting on the O.A.R.S. Ecuador Multi-Sport trip include: Andean Condors, Caracaras (falcons), Macaws, Toucans, brightly colored Andean Cock-of-the-Rocks, over 100 species of tanagers and 28 owl species. Years ago friends gave my husband and I a copy of a Sibley’s Bird Guide and we take it with us on most of our adventures. We will be sure to make room for it on this trip too.
