Benefits for Kelley Kalafatich
May 20, 2008.O.A.R.S. is doing a benefit whitewater rafting trip on Colorado’s Yampa River on May 22 - 26 for Kelley Kalafatich. As previously mentioned, Kelley developed a rare condition diagnosed as Transverse Myelitis, which results in lesions and severe inflammation of the spinal cord and has left her with paralysis from the waist down and acute nerve pain.
Kelley was the stunt double for Meryl Streep in the film “The River Wild” - and most of Kelley’s professional life has been dedicated to being a wilderness guide and making wilderness experiences possible for people who otherwise would not have such opportunities.
ALL of the proceeds of this Yampa River trip are being donated to the NTAF Catastrophic Injury Fund on her behalf. Contact info@oars.com for detailed information.
The Yampa River is rated Class III-IV and is one of the major tributaries of the mighty Colorado River. It runs wild and free, straight to the heart of Dinosaur National Monument.
An award-winning documentary film featuring Kelley, Julie Munger and Rebecca Rusch, “Three Women, Three Hundred Miles”, will be shown at a benefit in Santa Cruz on June 7, 2008 at 7:00 at the Pacific Cultural Center, 1307 Seabright Avenue. There will be a silent auction before and after the film. Proceeds from the event will go to a special fund established for Kelley under the auspices of the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF) Spinal Cord Injury Program. Contact janedriscoll2002@yahoo.com or 831-566-6558 for further information about the film event.
Thoughts of a speedy, and COMPLETE, recovery to you Kelley…
